Future Tenant is Accepting Script Submissions for Ten-Minute Play Festival
(March 31, 2008) Here we go again: Ten playwrights. Ten plays. Ten minutes each.
It’s time to submit your ten-minute plays for the fifth installment of Future 10, the annual 10-minute play festival produced by Future Tenant, a multi-disciplinary art space located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. The festival, featuring local theatre artists, is scheduled to run at Future Tenant in November.
In order to be considered for production, scripts must be RECEIVED no later than July 15th, 2008. As a new twist for this year's festival we're hoping to receive scripts that are somehow inspired by "life in Pittsburgh" to go along with this year's "Yinzer" theme.
[PLEASE NOTE: There is no strict rule in how your play should be "inspired by life in Pittsburgh", so have fun and see what happens! We will still consider plays with no mention of Da 'Burgh, I.C. Light, or Primanti Brother's Sandwiches. In other words, if you have a great script sitting around that has nothing to do with Pittsburgh, but you're thinking about Pittsburgh when you mail it, that's totally cool!]
Other submission guidelines are as follows:
- Since the general rule is that one typewritten page of a play equals one minute of stage time, each play should be approximately ten pages in length.
- Playwrights must submit four (4) copies of his/her manuscript so that it may be distributed to the judges.
- Writers may submit up to two (2) scripts; however, no more than one (1) play per writer has the possibility of being selected for production.
- Manuscripts must be typed and stapled once in the upper left-hand corner.
- Include a cover page containing title, name, phone number and email address. DO NOT include your name or contact information on any portion of the actual script, as there will be an anonymous review process.
- One-act or full-length plays, musicals, children’s plays, or plays that have been previously produced will not be considered.
- Scripts will not be returned, so save a copy before sending it to us!
- Play submissions sent by email will not be accepted. Sorry for the inconvenience.
- Due to the limitations of our space, please craft your work to meet the following criteria: cast size – 2 to 6; set – basic chairs and tables; costumes – try to avoid costume changes; props – limited to a few items that you or your director must provide; lighting – full, dim and blackout are the only three light changes we can offer at this time. (NOTE: We will not necessarily rule out a quality script based on a production issue, but we may ask you to make changes in order for your work to meet the limitations of our space.)
