Frequently Asked Questions About FT:
Q: What is Future Tenant?:
A: Future Tenant is an alternative art and performance space located in downtown Pittsburgh, within the Cultural District. It is run by a staff of Master of Arts Management graduate students from nearby Carnegie Mellon University, and is operated in conjunction with the university and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
Q: How long has Future Tenant been around?
A: Future Tenant began in 2002 as a project between students in the Master of Arts Management program at the Heinz School of Carnegie Mellon University, and MFA students at CMU's College of Fine Arts.
Q: Weren't you guys down the street last year?
A: Future Tenant's first location was at 810 Liberty Avenue. We moved during the fall of 2007 to our current location at 819 Penn Ave.
Q: How can I show my work at Future Tenant?
A: Check the website frequently; we'll post all open calls for artists and performers on the front page, as well as in our emails (not on the mailing list yet? click here!)
Q: Will I get a parking ticket if I don't follow the signs outside of FT to the letter?
A: Yes. And not just little ones either. We're talking about big honkin' $100 tickets. It's not worth the risk, and anyway, the garage next door is only $5 after 5pm.
Q: I often walk by during business hours and the space looks closed. Wtf?
A: We sometimes close when an artist or performer is installing, and our gallery hours only apply when there is a show in the space. Check the website for show dates and event information.
